Wise Funds, the Oxfordshire-based investment management group, has hired experienced fund manager Philip Matthews.
Matthews, who joins Wise Funds on 3 September, previously spent five years at Schroders and managed the group’s UK Alpha Plus Fund and UK Growth Trust.
Matthews has almost two decades of investment experience, after joining Jupiter Asset Management’s fund management department in 1999. He began managing both retail and UK institutional portfolios in 2001 and ran the Jupiter Growth & Income Fund and served as deputy fund manager of the Jupiter Income Trust.
Wise Funds is a subsidiary of the Oak Investment Partnership, which was founded by Tony Yarrow in 1992. The company’s aim from inception has been to build relationships on understanding and trust, rather than simply selling products. Yarrow and Wise Funds CEO Vincent Ropers currently run the TB Wise Multi-Asset Growth Fund and TB Wise Multi-Asset Income Fund. Matthews will join as co-portfolio manager on both strategies.
Both funds have been managed by the team since 2004 and 2005 respectively and have outperformed the IMA Flexible sector over their lifetime, delivering top quartile performance over 5 and 10 years.
Ropers comments: “We are delighted to welcome Philip to the Wise Funds team, he brings skills very complementary to the team’s current capabilities. As our group expands, bringing on board a co-manager of Philip’s calibre signals our continued commitment to delivering the best possible investment outcomes for our clients.”
Yarrow adds: “I have known Philip for a decade and have a great respect for his ability as a fund manager. I look forward to working closely with him on the management of our growing Multi Asset Income and Multi-Asset Growth portfolios.
